Kombi Krew

The Kombi Krew aims to be a missional  outreach into our wider community. We hope to do this by building consistent  relationships with the people we meet, whilst providing practical elements in what we do. And in all we do, in conversation, action and engagement, reflecting the love and acceptance Christ exemplified to us. The Kombi Krew is one of the many parts and ministries that make up Glen Waverley Uniting Church.  Anyone who volunteers their time, resources  and energy is part of the different Kombi ministries. The Kombi Krew is not just for the youth or young adults but anyone who is interested  in outreach into our wider community. The idea of a Kombi van to set up as a missional tool has been stirring in a few hearts for quite some time. Not only can we transport more people than an average car, they can also come with built in kitchen facilities for a mobile set up, and they’re rather iconic and always draw a smile from passers by! We have began a  free bbq in our local skate park, again with the hope of building relationships with the young people in our community.

We also hope that the relational contact and consistent presence would help to make us more accessible as GWUC community. Random acts of kindness trips are faith and community opportunities within the Kombi  ministry. A group of 6 – 16 people go away together with the single intent to serve kindness on others. These groups will make contact with existing organisations & serve together, whilst being prayerful of the needs that may appear in their path. Community is built with the group, & faith is deepened with conversation, prayer & random acts  done together out of normal comfort zones. Now that our rural connections are growing with the Live feed ministry, we would like to send a Kombi Krew of 8—12 people to worship and serve the congregations we’re feeding too. They would go and serve on the Saturday, participate in worship Sunday morning, share in lunch together and then head back home Sunday afternoon. Theses are a few of the many ideas that  are connected to the Kombi ministries, there are also plans for handing out soup & blankets in winter, using the 8 seater Kombi for transport to and from all activities and ministries during the week, continuing making litter Glitter and other things you might think of!
